Daddy walked those country miles to see his blue-eyed blond The magic in her Texas smile had him spellbound As autumn leaves were falling, heart-to-heart they pledged To cherish one another for always Mama and Daddy loved each other through the good and bad When they started out together love was all they had It wasn't always easy, this melding of two lives But because of their commitment, love survives Courtship days were spent in spinning dreams that seemed so real But reality put wrinkles in that fabric of ideals Many times they'd lay it down and dampen it with tears Then with the warmth of love they'd iron it out Mama and Daddy loved each other through the good and bad When they started out together love was all they had It wasn't always easy, this melding of two lives But because of their commitment, love survives Whatever comes I'll stand by you 'cause I have seen love work It melts icy feelings and it cools off heated words It warms the heart with tenderness and binds our hearts as one This kind of love will always see us through Our love will go the distance Though the dusty road is long May our children and their children sing this song ... Mama and Daddy loved each other through the good and bad When they started out together love was all they had It wasn't always easy, this melding of two lives But because of their commitment, love survives

With someone like you A pal so good and true I'd like to leave it all behind and go and find A place that's known to God alone Just a spot to call our own We'll find perfect peace Where joys never cease Out there beneath the kindly skies We'll build a sweet little nest Somewhere out in the west And let the rest of the world go by.

LYRICS VERSE 1 (Birth Mother) When I found out about you, it all felt so wrong Choosing to give you life, I had to be strong Unsure of your future and what I should do I cannot keep you, I want the best for you I cling to the promise that God will hold onto me Now my heart is breaking as I wait to set you free CHORUS Child of my heart, You have always been a part of me VERSE 2 (Adoptive Mother) I've prayed for this moment, I've waited so long Yearning to meet you, and sing you your song Perfectly made, softness to hold, My gift from heaven, my heart overflows As she felt you grow inside, Your life was a mystery Now I'll watch you grow in life, As God holds your destiny CHORUS Child of my heart, You have always been a part of me BRIDGE B: So I give you to the One who knows your name A: And I give you to the One who formed your frame both: And I give you all that I can give to you B: In the end I have to give you up to Him A: From the start I will give you up to Him (both) CHORUS 1 Child of my heart , You have always been a part of me (x2) CHORUS 2 Child of my heart, You will always be a part of me (x2) TAG Child of my heart (x3)

In the morning light With the sun streaming in As I rise in the quiet I am thankful And as I enter the day With a peaceful soul Pressing close to your heart I am thankful Thankful for the little things Thankful for the ordinary ways That You put the wonder in it all When the family's together And the children are laughing Oh, the things we remember And we are thankful We look back and we see Just how far we have come And the grace that has brought us here And we are thankful to you Thankful for the little things Thankful for the ordinary ways That You put the wonder in it all And though at times we are sad And we can't find our way In the dark we know you are there And we are thankful to You So we wait for the dawn To rise in the morning Mercy of a newn day And we are thankful to You Thankful for the little things Thankful for the ordinary ways That You put the wonder in it all

Like a distant echo from an old desire The western coast tantalizes me The place that tempts me is the place that taught me Taught me to stay and not to go away And the wind blows down Howling through the coulees And the train rolls by Shaking walls and windows And it's here, here is where I'm staying And it's here, here is where I'm living I remember how I found my voice In the lovely choir of community So now I speak and write and I sing my songs For the place I have chosen to belong And the wind blows down Howling through the coulees And the train rolls by Shaking walls and windows And it's here, here is where I'm staying And it's here, here is where I'm living When the storms grow I'll be a tree on the prairie When the storms grow I'll be a tree on the prairie When the storms grow I'll be a tree on the prairie I will stand, I will stay strong and sure I will stand, I will stay strong and sure When the wind blows down Howling through the coulees And the train rolls by Shaking walls and windows It's here, here is where I'm staying It's here, here is where I'm living Oh it's here ...

about

In January 2009, Dara Schindelka and I toured together for three, very cold Saskatchewan winter weeks. It was delightful. We ended by recording our live concert in Moose Jaw.
